Corfu Property Market and Real Estate Guide

(Corfu, Ionian Islands, Greece)

Aerial photo of Corfu TownOne of Greece's most popular holiday islands, Corfu has long been a fashionable spot to spend a few weeks in the sun. However, in recent years a good number of expats have opted to purchase holiday homes here for extended stays or to relocate to this sun-kissed island.

While many people are seduced by the idea of buying low priced properties and renovating them, the best deals in Corfu are newer houses and apartments, as construction work can be costly and difficult to organise. Property hunters usually opt to stay on the north or south coasts of Corfu, which offer stunning views and beaches like Sidari.

Property in Corfu is a good investment, with houses and apartments here being reasonably priced in comparison to some of Europe's other popular holiday hotspots, and purchasing property in Corfu offers a good return on investment. However, real estate can be significantly pricier than property on less popular Greek islands.

Renting Serviced Apartments

The height of luxury, serviced apartments and serviced villas are plentiful around Corfu and come in all shapes and sizes, starting from comfortable one-bedroom apartments and moving up to palatial villas that come fully equipped with all modern conveniences. Most expats prefer to be based along the north and south coasts, but serviced properties are also available in Corfu Town.

Renters can expect to pay slightly more for serviced apartments than regular apartments, since they usually come fully furnished and include cooking facilities. Most serviced apartments are also set in large gardens and come complete with either a private or a communal swimming pool.

Buying Apartments and Houses

Although prices in Corfu tend to be higher than in many parts of Greece, a good range of affordable apartments and villas can be found on the island, with resorts like Roda being popular among expats. EU citizens are free to purchase property on Corfu without restriction, although buyers need to pay a deposit of around ten percent up front.

Property sales are usually completed in less than a month, as a notary handles the entire sale. In addition, buyers are advised to hire a lawyer to act for them, as documents such as property deeds must be submitted to the department of Land Registry.
